Stafford resident Rachel Baltzll, 34, if facing a host of charges after being busted with controlled substances during a midday crash investigation over the weekend.

Deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Shelton Shop Road and Courthouse Road shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, when a driver was rear-ended by a Ford, causing minor damage.

However, during the typical information exchange stage, the driver said that Baltzll was "acting odd, like she was on drugs."

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said that while probing the crash and possible DUI incident, Baltzll abruptly asked to leave - a request that was promptly denied - as the deputy "noticed several signs of intoxication, including pinpoint pupils."

Baltzll proceeded to fail Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was detained, at which point she was found to be in possession of a needle and suspected controlled substances.

When asked if there was anything else deputies should be aware of, Baltzell advised “no, I know better” and “I don’t want to catch more charges.”

She did not know better, and Baltzell caught more charges.

While incarcerated, further investigation led to the recovery of additional controlled substances and a pipe.

Baltzell was charged with three counts of possession of controlled substances, possession of paraphernalia, and driving under the influence.

She was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
